Parish Weekly Update --
May 2, 2019
Dear Parishioners of St. Joseph,
The school year is coming to a close, finals are over, and graduation is very near for many of our students. This past week, students were able to come and study in the Parish Hall for 24 hours. They were provided with snacks, Wi-Fi and a hot, home-cooked, late-night breakfast was made on several nights. Congratulations, blessings, and best wishes to our graduates college and high-school and prayers for those who will be staying with us and joining us next year.
Here are a few things going on:
Call for Adoration Volunteers
Every week we are able to have Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament for a full 24 hours. Our parish is blessed to have the committed volunteer adorers to offer this opportunity and to have parishioners praying for for a full day.
One of our adorers will be leaving town for the summer and we will need someone to cover 4 AM hour of Adoration starting Wednesday May 29th through July 31. As the dates indicate, this is temporary. Please pray about serving in this important ministry. Email Mike Kassouf at
if you can help.
Air Conditioner in the Church
One of the 10-ton heat and air systems in the church is in need of replacement. After some consultation with some professionals and the Physical Plant Committee, the Finance Council has recommended we have it replaced. The estimated amount of that work from Rhodes Heating & Air is $11,877.00. This work should begin in the next few weeks and we will be staying cool before it gets too hot.
Farewell to Choir Director
Patrick Francis who has led our 5:30 PM, Sunday choir over the last year will be leaving to go back home. We are very grateful for his service and his willingness to serve over the last year. We wish him all of the best as he moves away from Starkville. Please keep Patrick in prayer as moves on.
Parish Pastoral Council Elections
Elections for the Parish Pastoral Council are this Sunday, May 5th. Nominees for each position have been posted in the back of the church. The ballot includes 4 elections: Kathryn Barbier and Jehan Seneviratne for Parish Life Commissioner; Bob Bresnehan and Beverly Wilson for Witness Commissioner; Flo Henley and Amy Rollins for Secretary; and Chris House and Hillary Smith for President-Elect. Thanks to all of you who agreed to have your name on the ballot. This is a great way to serve the parish. Please keep the nominees in your prayers and next year's Parish Pastoral Council.
Again, thanks to all of our current parish pastoral council members, especially those who will be rolling off in June.

This weekend priestly pastoral assignments will be announced in the parishes that are affected by the transfers. The following weekend they will be announced in the Mississippi Catholic.

Bishop Kopacz will confirm our High School Confirmation students on May 9 at Annunciation Catholic Church in Columbus at 6 PM. We hope you all can make it. Please keep these young men and women in your prayers as well as they receive the sacrament of the Holy Spirit next Thursday.
Annunciation Catholic School Draw Down
The Annunciation Catholic School Annual Draw Down will be 7 PM at the Trotter Convention Center on 402 2nd Ave N. in Columbus, MS. This is a great way to support Annunciation Catholic School. Many of our families attend this awesome little school and this is a great, fun event for a night out of the house. Tickets are $100.00 and that admits two people and gives you a chance to win $10,000. Pay off that credit card debt!!!
