Parish Weekly Update -- May 30, 2019
Dear Parishioners of St. Joseph,
We hope you are having a wonderful Summer so far. Here is a quick rundown of some of the things that are happening at the moment.
In the Diocese of Jackson the solemnity celebrating the Ascension of the Lord is moved to the Sunday after so that more people can celebrate it. So the Ascension will be celebrated this coming weekend.
Vacation Bible School
All 5 year olds through 4th graders are invited to join us for VBS June 3rd-6th from 8:30-11:30am. This is a great way for your younger children to learn about their Catholic Faith and have fun at the same time! They will hear bible stories, do crafts, play games and learn new songs. Please sign up your child on the sheet in the gathering space of the church. If your older children want to help, sign them up as well and indicate that they are helpers
Ladies Auxiliary Scholarship
The Ladies Auxiliary is offering a $1000 college scholarship to a graduating high school senior from our parish! Application forms are available on our website
, or on the parish Facebook page. The deadline to apply is June 3rd at 2pm.
Deacons John and Jeff
As I've said many times before, we are very blessed at St. Joseph to have two deacons with us. This coming Tuesday, June 4, our deacons, Dcn. John McGinley and Dcn. Jeff Artigues, will be celebrating their third anniversary of ordination to the diaconate. Congratulations, God bless, and thanks for all that you both do.
Alumni Religious Professions
Last Friday, I had the opportunity to travel to New Orleans, LA to attend the Final Profession of the Dominican brother James Martin Nobles. Bro. James Martin attended Mississippi State University and was a member of our parish and an active member of CCM from 2008 to 2010. He is on track to be ordained as a transitional deacon next Summer and as a priest the following Summer.
Bro. James Martin is not the only one from Mississippi State University to make a profession of vows recently. On March 30, about two months ago, Sr. Clare Bass CSJ made her perpetual vows as a Sister of St. Joseph of Carondelet. Sr. Clare is a graduate of Mississippi State University. Her bachelor’s degree was in political science and her master’s is in public policy and administration.
Ministry Scheduler Pro
We are implementing new software to keep up with the liturgical ministry schedule. Hopefully this will help make scheduling easier for everyone.
You have the ability to download the app and change your information yourself. Or you can go to our website:
and click on the link -- "Current Ministry Schedule."
If this is not your thing, we will still make sure you receive the information you need to do what you need to do.
