Parish Update -- Saturday, August 22, 2020
Dear Parishioners of St. Joseph and Corpus Christi:
Welcome back to our students and welcome to all of our new students! It has been a very busy week and a lot is happening at St. Joseph.
1.
RCIA -- We are starting RCIA this coming Wednesday. We are taking several steps to keep things very safe. If you know of anyone you could invite, please let them know or share this link with them:
https://www.signupgenius.com/go/9040a4baba72fa2f85-rcia They can always call the church office or just come to the Parish Hall at 6:15 PM, Wednesday, August 22, 2020.
2. Finance Council/Church Projects -- This past Wednesday the Finance Council met and approved several items for the parish. If you've driven through the campus recently you can see, a new storage shed is being built behind the parish hall. The idea here is to consolidate our storage on campus. Currently we have storage in the Garage in the east gravel parking lot closest to MSU's campus, we also have a maintenance shed behind that, and the Helping Hands building closest to Coconuts is full of storage When the storage is consolidated, the Finance Council approved the demolition of the vacant buildings on our property. Also, we have been discussing paving the parking lot for quite some time now and we have committed to paving a large portion of the parking. Demolition will cost between $14,000 and $16,000. Paving two thirds of the parking lot will cost approximately $75,000. At the moment, our savings with the diocese is healthy enough to cover these major projects.
Also, in the last week, the house closest to and adjacent to our currently owned property came up for sale on Herbert St. The Finance Council approved making an offer and we are now under contract. We are planning to finance a portion of this endeavor.
4. Parish Council -- The Parish Council met Thursday night and discussed a number of topics, mostly updating Covid-19 precautions. The Parish Council approved the actions taken by the Finance Council in the acquisition of the property.
5. CCM -- After a lot of prayer, consultation, and consideration, we have decided to cancel Tuesday Night Dinner indefinitely, at least until it is safe to gather in large groups again. And now, our students are back, we are promoting small groups that are no bigger 10 people indoors.
Peace,
Fr. Jason
